A railway carriage of mass 9000 kg moving with a speed of 36 km h-1 collideswith a stationary carriage of the same mass. After the collision, the carriagesget coupled and move together. Calculate their common speed after collision.What is the nature of this collision? Give reason for your answer?

m1= 9000
u1= 36 =10m/s
m2= 9000
u2= 0
v1= v2= v=?

By conservation of momentum
m1u1 + m2u2= (m1 + m2) v
9000x 10 + 0 = (9000+9000) v
v= 9000/18000 = 5

KE before collision= 1/2 m1u1² + 1/2 m2u2²
= 450,000

KE after collision= 1/2 (m1 + m2) v
= 225,000
