Given :

A rainbow colours the entire sky.

Observation :

  • Subject of the sentence is a rainbow
  • Verb of the sentence colours
  • Object of the sentence is the entire Sky
  • The sentence was in simple present tense

Required Answer :

  • The entire sky is coloured by a rainbow

Explanation :

  • As we know the Given active sentence is in Simple Present tense the structure of the sentence is :

\textsf{Object+am/is/are+past participle form of verb+}\\\textsf{by+Subject}

  • The suitable auxiliary verb for the passive form of sentence was 'is'
  • The past participle form of the given verb is  'coloured'
  • The subject 'a rainbow' changes to object.
  • The object 'The entire sky' changes to subject.

Purpose of passive Voice :

‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎when we speak continuously and fast on a topic, if we say the object portion of the sentence at the beginning of a sentence by mistake or unintentionally, we will have two options before us :

  1. to say sorry and restart the sentence with the correct subject
  2. to continue the sentence in passive voice by adding a suitable Passive voice verb and placing the Actor at the end of the sentence.

‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ For example, let us suppose that we are speaking about seeing a snake on the road and about our shouting for help, about the people rushing to the spot with sticks to kill the snake ect. and suppose we say the words ''the snakes'' instead of the actual Subject ''a courageous man''.

‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎Then our first option will be to say "sorry" and start the sentence again with the correct subject. Our second option will be to continue and sentence in Passive Voice as "The snake was killed by a courageous man".

‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Which sentence is nice to hear ? Is it " A courageous man killed a snake"(Active Voice) Or "A snake was killed by a courageous man"(Passive Voice). Both are correct. I think Passive Sentences are better than Active Voice sentences. Is not they better ?
