Here is the answer:

(x * 5/2) + 2/3 = -7/12
=> 5x/2 + 2/3 = -7/12
=> 5x/2 = -7/12 - -2/3
=> 5x/2 = -15/12
Cross multiply
=> 5x * 12 = -15 * 2
=> 5x * 12 = -30
=> 5x = -30/12
=> 5x = -15/6
=> x = -15/6 / 5
=> x = -1/2

Hence the number is -1/2

Let the rational be ‘n’.

According to the given details the equation becomes

n × (5/2) + 2/3 = -7/12

5(n/2) + 2/3 = -7/12

5(n/2) = -7/12 – 2/3

5(n/2) = (-7- 8)/12

5(n/2) = -15/12

5n/2 = -5/4

n = (-5/4) × (2/5)

n = – 10/20

n = -1/2

Answer

Therefore, the rational number will be -1/2.
