A rational number between 1/5 and 1/3 =

1/2 (1/5+1/3)

= 1/2 {(3+5) /15)}

= 1/2 (8/15)

=4/15 Ans.

to check

1/5 = 0.2

1/3=0.33...

4/15= 0.2666...

0.2 < 0.26666.. <0.333...

hence 4/15 lies between 1/5 and 1/3.

To find : rational numbers between \frac{1}{5} and  \frac{1}{3}

Solution:

  • According question we have to find rational numbers between \frac{1}{5} and  \frac{1}{3} for this we need to equalize denominators of the rational numbers by taking LCM.
  • Therefore, LCM = 15
  • Now, multiplying numerators by same numbers as multiplied by denominator to make LCM .
  • We get, \frac{1}{5}=\frac{1\times3}{15}=\frac{3}{15} and \frac{1}{3}=\frac{1 \times 5}{15}=\frac{5}{15}
  • Now, we can find rational number between \frac{3}{15} and \frac{5}{15}
  • It is : \frac{4}{15}

Hence,  rational number between \frac{1}{5} and  \frac{1}{3} is \frac{4}{15} .
