A Ray of light is incident in glass on a glass-water boundary.The angle of incidence is 50°.Calculate the angle of refraction.Refractive index of glass=1.50 and refractive index of water=1.33.

sin i / sin r = μ glass / μ air

                = 1.127

sin 50 / sin r = 1.127

0.766 / sin r = 1.127

sin r = 0.680

r = 42.843  °

Given:

  • i=50^{0} ,w^{n} =1.5, s^{n} = 1.33,r=?
  • we know the basic fomula,

                 ^{s} _{w} {n} =\frac{sini}{sinr}

  • And we can write as,

                      =\frac{w^{n} }{s^{n} }

  • Now lets find r,

                  sinr=\frac{w^{n}sini }{s^{n} }

                         =\frac{1.5Xsin50^{0} }{1.33}

                  ∴ r=59.8
