A ray of light is incident upon an air/ water interface (it passes from air into water) at an angle of 45°. Which of the following quantities change as the light enters the water ?

(I)           wavelength                                                        (II)          frequency

(III)         speed of propagation                                    (IV)        direction of propagation

speed of propagation is change because when the light entered the rare medium to denser its speed is decreased

Hey Dear,

Everything except frequency of light wave changes.

● Answer -

(I) Wavelength -

Wavelength of light changes during refraction.

λ' = n/λ

(II) Frequency -

Frequency of light remains same irrespective change in mdeium of propagation.

(III) Speed -

Speed of light changes and can be given by formula -

v = n/c

(IV) Direction -

Direction of propagation of light deviates when light passes from one medium to another.

Right rays bend towards normal when passing from rare medium (air) to denser medium (water.)

Hope this helped you.
