Given info : A ray of light travelling from air to crown glass strikes the surface at an angle 30°.

To find : the angle of refraction is ...

solution : refractive index of crown glass, μ = 1.532

From Snell's law,

    \mu_1sin\theta_i=\mu_2sin\theta_r

here, refractive index of air, \mu_1 = 1

refractive index of crown glass, \mu_2 = 1.532

angle of incidence, \theta_i = 30°

angle of refraction, \theta_r = ?

∴ 1sin30° = 1.532 sin\theta_r

⇒ 0.5/1.532 = sin\theta_r

⇒  sin\theta_r = 0.3263 = 19.2°

therefore the angle of refraction is 19.2°.
