(a) Read the following passage and answer the given questions. 5
It was the year 1919. Mahatma Gandhi’s name had become well
known throughout India, but not all the people had seen him in person.
One day, Gandhiji was going by train to Motihari in the Champaran
district of Bihar, accompanied by some other Congress leaders. He was
lying at ease on a bench in a third class compartment. At a wayside
station, a peasant entered Gandhiji’s compartment, finding it less
crowded than others. He was going to Motihari to see Gandhiji. As
soon as he got in, he pushed Gandhiji’s feet away, saying, ‘Sir,please
get up. How dare you stretch your legs on the bench when the train is
so overcrowded?”.Little did he realize that he was talking to the very
person whose ‘darshan’ he wanted to have. Gandhiji sat up, and the
simple farmer sat down without knowing who the person next to him
was. The train reached Motihari. A big crowd had gathered at the
station to welcome Gandhiji. The peasant recognized Gandhiji and he
was ashamed of his misbehavior.
