Life and literature are interrelated. Neither

Literature nor life can be isolated from each

other because life produces literature and is in

turn fed by literature. If we want to study

literature we will have to study the

life of that period. Literature is only one of

many channels in which the energy of an age

discharges itself in its political movements,

religious thoughts, philosophical speculation, art

and others forms of expression. Thus study of

literature takes us out into the wide field of the

history of politics and society, manners and

customs, culture and learning, philosophy and

religion. Therefore, we find that behind every

literary work there is the character of the race.

As literature is a product of a society of a

particular period, the critics, at the time of

evolution, must correlate the literature of that

age with all other aspects of national activities,

its time, spirit, ideals, the conflicting tendencies,

movements reforms, cross currents in other

spheres of life and thoughts.
