A real life example on

1. Inertia of motion

When your feet hit the ground, the grounds act on your feet and they stop moving. You will fall because the upper part of your body didn't stop, and you will fall in the direction you were moving. When you stir coffee or tea and stop, the swirling motion continues due to inertia.

2. Inertia of rest

When a hanging carpet is beaten with a stick, the dust particles start coming out of it. When a carpet is beaten by stick the carpet is set into motion. But due to inertia, the dust particles remain at rest. Thus they get separated from the carpet.

3. Inertia of direction

The inability of a body to change by itself its direction of motion is called Inertia of direction. Examples of inertia of direction: i) A dog chases a hare, the hare runs along a zig-zag path. It becomes more difficult for the dog to catch the hare because dog has more inertia of direction than that of the hare.
