Given A rear view mirror has a radius of curvature of 4m. An image of a bus is formed 1.5m behind the mirror.find the actual distance of the vehicle from the mirror and compare the size of the bus with the image seen in the mirror.

Radius of curvature  = R = 4 m

Focal length f = R / 2 = 4 / 2 = 2 m

Object distance u = - 1.5 m

Image distance = v

1 / f = 1/u + 1/v

1 / 2 = 1/v - 1/1.5

1/v = 1/2 + 1/1.5

1/v = 7/6

v =  0.857 m

The distance of image is 0.857 m

magnification m = -v/u

                  m = - 0.857 / -1.5 = 0.571

So the size of the image is 0.571 times that of the object

tarunraaj2003: Bro , actually the image distance is given . It was asked to find the object distance
