SOLUTION

GIVEN

A recipe for beef stew calls for 1 pound of beef and 3 potatoes. The recipe is doubled to include 2 pounds of beef and 6 potatoes. Given that the proportion \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{1}{3} = \frac{2}{6} } represents the situation

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTIONS

A) The numerators represent the number of potatoes.

B) The numerators represent the pounds of beef.

C) The denominators represent the pounds of beef.

D) The denominators represent the number of potatoes.

EVALUATION

We know that

 \displaystyle \sf{Fraction =  \frac{Numerator}{Denominator}    }

Here it is given that, a recipe for beef stew calls for 1 pound of beef and 3 potatoes. The recipe is doubled to include 2 pounds of beef and 6 potatoes.

The proportion representing the situation is

 \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{1}{3}  =  \frac{2}{6} }

So the numerators are 1 & 2 which are the pounds of beef

And the denominators are 3 & 6 which are number of potatoes

Hence the correct options are

B) The numerators represent the pounds of beef

D) The denominators represent the number of potatoes.
