The perimeter of the rectangle is 144 cm.

Let its length be l and breadth be b

Perimeter = 2 ( l + b )

                  ==> 2 ( l + b ) = 144 cm

                   ==> l + b = 72 cm.............................(1)

The perimeter of the square is 144 cm

Let the side be s.

                        ==> Perimeter = 4 s

                                                    ==> 4 s = 144 cm

                                                    ==> s = 144 cm / 4

                                                    ==> s = 36 cm

The breadth of the rectangle is 12 cm less than side s

                                                 Breadth = 36 cm - 12 cm

                                                                ==> 24 cm

l + b =72 cm [See (1) ]

==> l + 24 cm = 72 cm

==> l = 72 cm - 24 cm

==> l = 48 cm

We know that area = l × b

                                           ==> 24 cm × 48 cm

                                           ==> 1152 cm²

The area of the rectangle is 1152 cm²

Hope it helps you:-)

Perimeter of rectangle =2(l+b)

=2(l+b)

=l+b =144÷2

=l+b=72

breath = 36 -12

24

=l+24=72

l=72 -24=48

area of rectangle l×b

24×48

1152
