A rectangle with sides 15 cm and 7 cm has the same diagonal as a square. What is the length of the side of the square. Give your answer as a surd.

By pythagoras theorem,

In rectangle,

(diagonal)²=(l)²+(b)² ..........(1)

In square,

(diagonal)²=side²+side²

(diagonal)2=2(side)² ..........(2)

by 1 and 2,

l²+b²=2side²

15²+7²=2side²

225+49=2side²

side²= 324/2

side²= 162

side=9 root2
