A rectangular aquarium is 2/3 filled with water and then is tilted on it's side until the water level coincides with one edge of the bottom . During the process , 6 quarts of water are poured out. what is the volume of the tank in quarts

answer: 36

when water level coincides with 1 edge of the bottom when pouring (it means that the side that the water is coming out of coincides with 1 edge of the top), there is exactly 1/2 of the water to tank volumn. say tank volumn is x, we have

(2/3)x - (1/2)x = 6 quarts

2x/3 - x/2 = 6

(4x-3x)/6 = 6

x = 36
