Length and breadth of a rectangle are 9 and 6 cm

Area of the rectangle is 54 cm square

Length and breadth of a tile are 1 and 2 cm

Area of the tile is 2 cm square

To find the number of tiles

we should divide area of rectangle by area of tiles 54/2= 27 tiles

The minimum number of tiles needed for this is 9 (1 nos. square tile of side 5 unit ,7 nos. square tile of side 2 unit and  1 nos.square tile of side 1 units).

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

A rectangular areas of sides 9 and 6 units.

A rectangular area  is to be covered by square titles of sides 1,2 and 5 units.

To Find:

The minimum number of tiles needed for this.

Solution:

As given- a rectangular areas of sides 9 and 6 units.

Length of a rectangular area = 9 units.

Width of a rectangular area =6 units.

Area of rectangular area = Length x Width

                                         =9\times6  =54 \ units^{2}

As given - a rectangular area  is to be covered by square titles of sides 1,2 and 5 units.

Area of square tile = Side^{2}

Area of square tile of side 1 unit =1^{2} =1\ units^{2}

Area of square tile of side 2 unit =2^{2} =4\ units^{2}

Area of square tile of side 5 unit =5^{2} =25\ units^{2}

The minimum number of tiles needed to cover rectangular area (54\ units^{2}) = 1  x area of square tile of side 5 unit + 7 x area  of  square tile of side 2 unit + 1 x area. of square tile of side 1 unit.

                = 1\times25+7\times4+1\times1

                = 25+28+1 =54 units^{2}

Thus,the minimum number of tiles needed to cover rectangular area is 9 (1 nos. square tile of side 5 unit ,7 nos. square tile of side 2 unit and  1 nos.square tile of side 1 units).
