Answer:

Explanation:

PRESSURE=FORCE/AREA

when area is smallest pressure is largest

as force is constant we will try to find smallest are which will have max pressure and largest area which will have minimum pressure

a) We have to calculate minimum area as there is max pressure.

area of the surfaces will be

100x50

10x50

10x100

10 x 50 is the smallest

=500cm^2

but we have to convert to SI units to solve as Newton is also in Si units

500cm^2=500/10000 m^2= 5 x 100/10000 m^2

=5 x 10^-2 m^2

Force=500N

Pressure= 500/5 x 10^-2=500 x 10^2/5=100 x 100=10000 Pa= Max pressure

b) We have to calculate maximum area as there is minimum pressure.

area of the surfaces will be

100x50

10x50

10x100

100 x 50  is the largest

=5000cm^2

but we have to convert to SI units to solve as Newton is also in Si units

5000cm^2=5000/10000 m^2= 5 x 1000/10000 m^2

=5 x 10^-1 m^2

Force=500N

Pressure= 500/5 x 10^-1=500 x 10^1/5=100 x 10=1000 Pa= Minimum pressure
