a rectangular board is 2.5x + 3.4y metres long and 3.7x + 5.5y metres wide. Another board measures 3.5x + 4.2y metres by 2.1x + 5.1y metres. Which board is longer? Assume x = 2 and y = 1

In the 1st rectangular board, b=2.5x+3.4y m

And l=3.7x+5.5y m

Asuming x=2 and y=1 then,

b=8.4 m and l=12.9m

Area=12.9*8.4=08.36 m^2

And in 2nd board

b=9.3m, l=11.2m

Area=11.2*9.3=104.16 m^2

Hence the 1st board is longer
