A rectangular courtyard is 18 mt 72 cm long and 13mt 20 cm broad,it is to be paved with square tiles of the same size ,find the least possible no of such tiles

so length of courtyard can be written as 1800+72 = 1872cm

and width is 1300+20 = 1320 cm

* area of a rectangular is = length × width

= 1872×1320= 2471040 cm²

this is the area we have to cover with tiles

To find the least no of tiles we have to find out HCF of 1872 and 1320

so 2| 1872,1320

2| 936,660

2| 468,330

3| 234,165

| 78,55

so the HCF is 2×2×2×3 = 24 cm

now no. of tiles required is = area of yard/ area of tiles

=> 2471040/24×24

=> 4290 tiles
