length \: of \: the \: diagonal \:  =   \sqrt{ {40}^{2} +  {30}^{2}  }  =  \sqrt{ {50}^{2} }  = 50

According to Pythagoras' Theorem a² + b² = c², 

\sqrt{40^2 + 30^2} = \sqrt{1600 + 900} = \sqrt{2500} = 50

The answer is 50 m.
