Given:

Width of field = Length of field/2

Perimeter = x metres

To find:

We have to find the area of rectangle in terms of x

Solution:

Let length of rectangle = L

Then Width = L/2

Now perimeter = 2( Length + Breadth )

                    x   = 2( L + L/2)

                    x   = 3L _ _(1)

Area = ( Length × Breadth )

        =  ( L × L/2 )

        =  ( 3L²/2 )

But from (1) we get  L= x/3

Area  = \frac{3(\frac{x}{3} ^{2})}{2}

Area = \frac{x^{2} }{6}

∴Area of rectangular field in terms of x is  x²/6  sq.m
