Step-by-step explanation:

Given

A rectangular field is of dimension 20 m*15 m. Two paths run parallel to the sides of the rectangle through the centre of the field. The width of the longer part is 2 m and that of the shorter path is 1 metre. find (1) The area of the paths (2) the area of the remaining portions of the field (3) the cost of the construction the roads are the rate of rupees 10 per square metre.

Let ABCD be a rectangular field with AB = 20 m and AD = 15 m. It has two paths width 2 m and 1 m.

Area of two paths = area of rectangle LMNO + area of rectangle PQRS – area of the common

                              = (20 x 2) + (15 x 1) – (2 x 1)

                               = 40 + 15 – 2

                                = 55 – 2

                                = 53 m^2

Now area of remaining portion of field = area of field ABCD – area of two paths

                                                                 = (20 x 15) – 53

                                                              = 300 – 53

                                                                 = 247 m^2

Now cost of construction at the rate of Rs 10 per sq m will be 53 x 10                                        = Rs 530
