A rectangular field is of dimensions 30 m x 15.5 m. Two paths run parallel to the sides of the rectangle
through the centre of the field. The width of the longer path is 1.4 m and that the shorter path is 2m. Find
(a) the area of the paths, and
(b) the cost of cementing the paths at the rate of * 70 per m².

Answer:

area of the path =  70.2 m²

cost of cementing the path =  Rs. 4914

Step-by-step explanation:

dimensions of A rectangular field  30 m and 15.5 m

The width of the longer path is 1.4 m and that the shorter path is 2 m

area of the rectangle ABCD = length × breadth

= 30×15.5

= 465 m²

length of the longer path = 30 m

breadth of the longer path = 1.4 m

area of the longer path EFGH= length × breadth

= 30×1.4

= 42 m²

length of the shorter path = 15.5 m

breadth of the shorter path = 2 m

area of the shorter path IJKL=length × breadth

= 15.5 ×2

= 31 m²

area of the common path MNOP  = 1.4×2= 2.8 m²

area of the path = (area of the longer path + area of the shorter path )- area of the common path

area of the path =(42+31)- 2.8

= 73-2.8

= 70.2 m²

cost of cementing the path 1 m² = Rs. 70

cost of cementing the path 70.2 m² = 70.2×70 = Rs. 4914

hence, area of the path =  70.2 m²

cost of cementing the path =  Rs. 4914
