The area of the path is 230 m².

Given data :

Length of the garden = 78 metres

Width of the garden = 35 metres

Width of the path = 1 metre

• At first we have to calculate the area of the garden without the path by using the following mathematical formula

= Length × Breadth

= 78×35

= 2730 metre²

• Now,the length of the garden including the path = {78+(2×1)} = (78+2) = 80 metres

( ×2 because path is included into both sides)

• Now,the breadth of the garden including the path = {35+(2×1)} = 37 metres

• So,the area of the garden including the path

= (80×37)

= 2960 metre²

• So,the area of the path

= (Area of the garden including the path - Area of the garden)

= (2960-2730) m²

= 230 m² (answer)

Answer is 230m²

Step-by-step explanation:

Let PQRS be the rectangular garden and ABCD be the external boundary of the path. So, we have

Length PQ = 78 m

Breadth OR = 35 m

Area of rectangle PQRS = PQ × OR

= 78m × 35m

= 2730m²

Length AB = 78m + 1m + 1m = 80m

Breadth BC = 35m+ 1m + 1m = 37m

Area of rectangle ABCD = AB × BC

= 80m × 37m

= 2960m²

Area of path = Area of rectangle ABCD - Area of rectangle PQRS

= 2960m² - 2730m²

= 230m²

Thus, area of path = 230m²
