Given :

  • Length of garden = 175 m
  • Breadth of garden = 96 m
  • Cost of fencing = 17.50 unit/m
  • Cost of ploughing = 4.50 paise/m²

To find :

  • Total cost of fencing
  • Total cost of ploughing

Formula used :

  • Area of rectangle = length× breadth
  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2×(length + breadth)

Procedure -

  • Fencing will be done along the walls of garden. Therefore we need to find perimeter of garden and then multiply it with cost per unit length
  • Ploughing will be done inside of garden that is around its area . So find area and multiply it with cost of ploughing per unit area

Solution :

Part 1) Cost of Fencing -

Perimeter of garden = 2×(175m +96m)

➝ Perimeter of garden = 2(271m)

➝ Perimeter of garden = 542 m

Total Cost of fencing garden = 542m × 17.5 unit/m

➝ Total Cost of fencing garden = 9485 unit

Part 2) Cost of ploughing -

Area of garden = 175m × 96m

➝ Area of garden = 16800 m²

Total cost of ploughing = 16800 m² × 4.5 paise/m²

➝ Total Cost of ploughing = 75600 paise

➝ Total Cost of ploughing = 756

ANSWER :

  • Total cost of fencing = 9485 units
  • Total cost of ploughing = 756
