Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

A rectangular garden is 185m long and 220m wide. It has two roads in center of uniform width 4m, one parallel to its length and the other parallel to its breadth .

To find :-

Find the cost of leveling the road at 1.25 per sq.m

Solution :-

Given that

The length of the rectangular garden (l) = 185 m

The breadth of the rectangular garden (b)=220 m

The width of the road (w) = 4 m

It has two roads in center of uniform width 4m, one parallel to its length and the other parallel to its breadth .

We know that

Area of a rectangle = lb sq.units

The area of the rectangle in which the road is parallel to the length of the rectangular garden

Length = 185 m , breadth = 4 m

=> 185×4 sq.m

=> 740 sq.m

And

The area of the rectangle in which the road is parallel to the breadth of the rectangular garden

Length = 220 m , breadth = 4 m

=> 220×4 sq.m

=> 880 sq.m

Area of the road which is common portion of the garden

Length = 4 m and breadth = 4 m

Area = 4×4 = 16 sq.m

Now ,

The total area of the road

= [Area of the road which is running parallel to the length+ Area of the road which is running parallel to the breadth] - Area of the road which is running common portion

= 740+880-16

=> 1620 - 16

=> 1604 sq.m

Total area of the road = 1604 sq.m

Now,

The cost of levelling the road per 1 sq.m = Rs. 1.25

The total cost of levelling the road of 1604 sq.m

at the rate of Rs. 1.25

=> 1604×1.25

=> Rs. 2005

Therefore, The cost = Rs. 2005

Answer:-

The total cost of the levelling the road is Rs. 2005

Used formulae:-

→ Area of a rectangle = lb sq.units

  • l = length
  • b = breadth
