Question :-

  • A rectangular garden is 60m long and 16m broad. A path of uniform width of 2m surround the garden inside it. Find the area of the path and the remaining area of the garden. Also find the cost of paving the path with bricks at 20 rupee per square metre.

\bf\large \underbrace\red{Answer:}

Given :-

  • A rectangular garden is 60m long and 16m broad.
  • A path of uniform width of 2m surround the garden inside it.

To Find :-

  • (i) Area of path
  • (ii) Area of remaining garden
  • (iii) Cost of paving the path with bricks at 20 rupee per square metre.

Formula used :-

\bf \:\boxed{Area\:of\:Rectangle=l \times b}

where,

  • l = Length of rectangle
  • b = Breadth of rectangle

Solution:-

★Case 1.

Dimension of rectangle ABCD

Length of rectangle = 60 m

Breadth of rectangle = 16 m

⇛ Area or rectangle ABCD = 60 × 16 = 960 m²

★Case 2.

Dimension of rectangle PQRS

Length of rectangle = 60 - 2 - 2 = 56 m

Breadth of rectangle = 16 - 2 - 2 = 12 m

⇛Area of rectangle PQRS = 56 × 12 = 672 m²

Answer of (i) part

Area of path = Area of rect. ABCD - Area of rect. PQRS

⇛ Area of path = 960 - 672 = 288 m²

Answer of part (ii)

Area of garden = Area of rectangle PQRS = 672 m²

Answer of part (iii)

Cost of paving the brick 1 m² is ₹ 20

⇛ Cost of paving 288 m² = 288 × 20 = ₹ 5760
