A rectangular garden is 90 m long and 75 m broad. A path 5 m wide is to be built out around it. Find the area of the path.

Answer:

Length of the garden = 90 m

Width of the garden = 75 m

Area of the rectangular garden = (90*75) m² = 6750 m²

Now a path is added around the garden;

Width of the path built around the garden = 5 m

So new length of the rectangular garden with path = (90 + 2*5) m = 100 m

And the new width of the garden with path = (75 + 2*5) m = 85 m

Area of the rectangular garden with path = (100*85) m² = 8500 m²

Since we've calculated both the area of rectangular garden with and without path, so we're able to find area of path.

Area of path = Area rectangular garden with path -  Area rectangular garden without path

Substituting the values;

Area of path = 8500 m² - 6750 m² = 1750 m²

Area of path = 1750 m²  Answer.
