Given, a rectangular lawn measuring 38m by 25m
Width of path surrounding the lawn externally = 2.5m
So, we have an internal rectangle (a.k.a. the lawn) and an external rectangle (a.k.a. the lawn + the path)
Area occupied by the path = Area of external rectangle - Area of internal rectangle.
Area of internal rectnagle = 38*25 = 950 m²
Dimensions of external rectangle = (38+2.5+2.5)*(25+2.5+2.5) = 43*30
∴ Area of external rectangle = 43*30 = 1290 m²
∴ Area of path = 1290-950 = 340 m²
Rate of cost of gravelling the path = Rs. 120/m²
∴ Total cost of gravelling = 340*120 = Rs. 40800
Hope this helped.
