Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

A rectangular grassy plot 160 m by 45 m has a gravel path which is 3 m wide and all four sides are inside it.

To find :-

Find the area of the path ?

Solution :-

Given that

Length of the grassy plot (l) = 160 m

Breadth of the grassy plot (b) = 45 m

We know that

Area of a rectangle = lb sq.units

Area of the grassy plot

= 160×45 sq.m

= 7200 sq.m

Width of the gravel path (w) = 3 m

If the path of the gravel running out side then

the inner plot will be formed .

Length of the new plot = l-2w

=> 160-2(3)

=> 160-6

=> 154 m

Breadth of the new plot = b-2w

=> 45-2(3)

=> 45-6

=> 39 m

Area of the new plot = 154×39 sq.m

=> 6006 sq.m

Now,

Area of the gravel path

= Area of the grassy plot - Area of the new plot

=> 7200 - 6006

=> 1194 sq.m

Area of the path = 1194 sq.m

Answer:-

The area of the path for the given problem is 1194 sq.m

Used formulae:-

→ Area of a rectangle = lb sq.units

  • l = length
  • b = breadth
