A rectangular grassyplot is 112m long and 78m broad. It has a gravel path 2.5m wide all around it on the inside. Find the area of path and the cost of constructing it at the rate of ₹4.50 per square metre.
why didn't we add 5 to it instead of subtracting even though it is written all around it on it's side?

Given length = 112m,breadth = 78m, width=2.5m.

We know that Area of the path when it's inside = 2(width) * ((l+b) - 2(width))

= 2 * 2.5 * (112 + 78 - 2 * 2.5)

= 925 sq.m

The cost of constructing it at 4.50 per sq.m = 925 * 4.50

                                                                          = 4162.5.

Hope this helps!

Answer:

925 sq.cm.

Rs.4162.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Length of Grassy Plot = 112 m

Width of Grassy Plot = 78 m

We are given that t has a gravel path 2.5m wide all around it on the inside.

So, Length of Gravel Path = 112-(2.5+2.5)= 107 m

Width of Gravel Path = 78-(2.5+2.5)= 73 m

Area of Path = Outer area - Inner area

             =(112 \times 78)-(107 \times 73)

             =925 cm^2

Hence the area of the Path is 925 sq.cm.

Cost of constructing 1 sq.m. = rs.4.50

Cost of constructing 925 sq.m.= 4.50 \times 925

                                                  = 4162.5

Hence the total cost is Rs.4162.5

We Didn't add 5 to it instead of subtracting even though it is written all around it on it's side because it is written inside not outside
