A rectangular lawn 75m by 60m has two roads each 4m wide, running through the middle of the lawn one parallel to length and the other parallel to breadth as shown in figure. Find cost of gravelling the roads at Rs 4.50 per m^2 ?

Area of Road ABCD
= 75 × 4
= 300
Area of Road EFGH
= 60 × 4
= 240
As in figure PQRS is common for both roads
Area of PQRS
= 4 × 4
= 16
Road to be Gravelled
= 300 + 240 - 16
= 524 m^2
Now cost will be
= 524 × 4.50
