Given:

A rectangular lawn measure 50m by 36m is rounding externally by path which is 2m wide.

To find:

The area of the path also calculate the cost of levelling of the path at Rs.16/m².

Explanation:

We have,

  • Length of the rectangular lawn[l]=50m
  • Breadth of the rectangular lawn[b]=36m
  • Width of the path= 2m

Therefore,

Length of the outer rectangle=[50+2+2]m

Length of the outer rectangle[L]= 54m

Breadth of the outer rectangle=[36+2+2]m

Breadth of the outer rectangle[B]= 40m

∴Area of the path:

⇒ Area of outer rectangle - Area of inner rectangular lawn

⇒ L × B - l×b

⇒ 54 × 40 - 50× 36

⇒ [2160 - 1800]m²

⇒ 360m².

Now,

→ Cost of levelling path at Rs.16/m²

→ Cost of levelling path= Rs.[360× 16]

→ Cost of levelling path= Rs.5760.
