A rectangular piece of a canvas measures 35 m by 18 m. A triangular piece with base 18 m and height 12 m is cut from the canvas. Find the area of the remaining piece.

Soupteek: We will subtract the area of the triangle from the area of the rectangle and then we will get the area of the remaining part which is 422 square metre

Given:-

  • A rectangular piece of a canvas measures 35 m by 18 m.
  • A triangular piece with is cut from the canvas.
  • Base of triangular piece = 8m
  • Height = 12m

To find:-

  • The area of the remaining piece.

Solution:-

Using the formula,

Area of rectangle = l×b

Where,

  • Length = l = 35m
  • Breadth = b = 18m
  • Area = ?

Putting values in the formula,

Area of rectangular piece of canvas:-

➪35×18

630m²

Using the formula,

Area of triangle = 1/2×b×h

Where,

  • Base = b = 18m
  • Height = h = 12m

Putting values in the formula,

Area of triangular piece :-

➪1/2 × b× h

➪1/2 × 18 × 12

➪18 × 6

108m²

Area of remaining piece :-

➪Area of rectangar canvas - Area of triangular piece

➪630 - 108

522m²

Hence,the area of remaining piece is 522m².

★ Given:

A rectangular piece of canvas of length 35 m and breadth 18 m.

A triangular piece of canvas of base 18 m and height 12 m cut off from it.

★ To Find:

The area of the remaining portion.

★ Analysis

In this question we will first have to find the area of the rectangular sheet and subtract the area of the triangular sheet from it.

★ Solution:

Please refer the attachment for pictorial representation.

The rectangular canvas sheet

Length = 35 m

Breadth = 18 m

Area of a rectangle = lb

= 35 x 18

= 630 m²

Area of the triangular canvas sheet cut from it

Base = 18 m

Height = 12 m

Area of a triangle = 1/2bh

\sf{=\dfrac{1}{2}\times18\times12}

= 108 m²

Area of the remaining piece of canvas

Total area of sheet - Area of rectangular sheet

= 630 - 108

= 522 m²

Hence the area of the remaining piece of canvas is 522 m².

Important Area Formulae:

→ Area of a square = a²

→ Area of a rectangle = lb

→ Area of a circle = πr²

→ Area of a parallelogram = bh

→ Area of a rhombus = bh (or) 1/2 x d1 x d2

→ Area of a right angled triangle = 1/2bh
