A rectangular piece of length 12 cm and breadth 4 cm is folded to form a cylinder.
Find its curved surface area.

Given,

Length of the rectangular piece = 12 cm

Breadth of the rectangular piece = 4 cm

To find,

The curved surface area of the formed cylinder.

Solution,

Now, the rectangular piece can be folded along it's width or length, to form the cylinder. In both cases, the surface area of the rectangular piece will be the curved surface area of the cylinder.

(Here, overlapping is omitted.)

So,

The curved surface area of the cylinder (in this case)

= Length × Breadth

= (12×4)

= 48 cm²

Hence, the CSA of the cylinder will be 48 cm².
