A rectangular plot 30 m long and 18 m wide is to be covered with grass leaving 2.5 m all around it. Find the area to be laid with grass.

leave 2.5 m each side

means 2 × 2.5 = 5m

substract 5m from each side

25m× 13m= 325m^2 = area of grass

Area of rectangle=

length \times breadth = 30 \times 18 \\  = 540 {m}^{2}

Area of rectangle which will be left=

30 \times 2.5 \times 4 \\  = 300 {m}^{2}

Area to be laid with grass= 540-300

. = 240 m^2
