A rectangular plot of land has length 35 m and breadth 25 m. There is a path of uniform
width 1.5 m, all around outside the plot. Find the area of the path.

think of the red rectangle as the park. and think of the part of yellow rectangle that lies outside the red rectangle as the path. so area of the path will be equal to the area of the whole yellow rectangle minus the area of the garden which is the red rectangle. so lets find the areas and subtract.

area of red rectangle = 35m × 25m = 875m².

area of green rectangle = (35m + 1.5m + 1.5m) × (25m + 1.5m + 1.5m) = 38m × 28m = 1064m².

so area of the path = 1064m² - 875m² = 189m².
