Dimensions of the field = 15 m × 12 m

Dimensions of the pit = 8 m × 2.5m × 2m

Volume of earth removed from the pit = 8m × 2.5 m × 2 m = 40 m³

Area of the remaining field

= Area of the field – Area of the pit

= (15 m × 12 m) – (8 m × 2.5 m)

= 160 m²

Since, the earth removed is evenly spread over the remaining area of the field.

∴ Increase in level of remaining field × Area of remaining field  = Volume of earth removed from the pit.

Increase in level of remaining field = 40/160 =0.25m
