A rectangular plot of land measures 98 m by 73 m. Inside the plot, a path of uniform width of 3m is to be constructed all around. The rest of the plot is to be laid with grass. Find the area of the path and the area covered by grass at the rate of rupees 1.45 per sq m

The cost of constructing the path is 1435.5 Rs and the cost of laying the grass is 8937.8 Rs

Step-by-step explanation:

Length of plot ABCD = 98 m

Breadth of plot ABCD = 73 m

Area of plot ABCD = length × breadth = 98 ×73 = 7154 m^2

Now, width of the path = 3 m

Now, length of the park EFGH = 98−(3+3) = 98 − 6 = 92 m

Breadth of the park EFGH = 73 − (3 +3) = 73 − 6 = 67 m

  • Area of park EFGH = length × breadth = 92 × 67 = 6164 m^2

Area of path = area of ABCD − area of EFGH

Area of path = 7154 m^2 − 6164 m^2 = 990 m^2

Cost of constructing 1 m^2 of path = Rs 1.45 Rs

  • Cost of constructing 990 m^2 of path = Rs( 1.45 × 990) =  1435.5 Rs

Now, cost of laying grass in 1 m^2 area = Rs 1.45

  • Cost of laying grass 6164 m^2 area = Rs ( 6164 × 1.45) =  8937.8 Rs

Thus the cost of constructing the path is 1435.5 Rs and the cost of laying the grass is 8937.8 Rs
