Answer:

Perimeter is the distance around the outside.

For a rectangle, P = 2L + 2W where

P = Perimeter, L = Length, W = Width

P = 42, so...

2L + 2W = 42 yards

Since the pool is twice as long as it is wide, L = 2W

Replace L with 2W

2(2W) + 2W = 42

4W + 2W = 42

6W = 42

Divide both sides by 6

6W/6 = 42/6

W = 7 yards

The width of the pool is 7 yards.

The length is twice the width so the length is 14 yards

The pool is 7 yds by 14 yds

Check Answer: P = 2L + 2W = 42

2(7)+2(14)= 42

14 + 28 = 42

42 = 42
