A rectangular swimming pool 8m long and 5m wide has a 0.5m wide path around it. Find the area of the path.

and 0.5= width of path
area of rectangular swimming pool= l×b

let a =width of path +breadth of rectangle=0.5+5 =5.5m
also length =8m
Now area =l×a
= 5.5×8=44.0m^2.............2

now subtracting 1 from 2 we get
44.0-40 = 4m^2
therefore area of path is 4m^2
