Required Answer :

  • Force = 49.05 N
  • The pressure acting on the table = 98.1 P

Given :

  • Length of a rectangular table = 1 m
  • Breadth of a rectangular table = 0.5 m
  • Mass of books which are kept on the table = 5 kg

To find :

  • Force
  • Pressure acting on the table

Solution :

Formula to calculate the force :

  • Force = m × g

where,

  • m denotes the mass
  • g denotes the acceleration due to gravity

we have,

  • m = 5 kg
  • g = 9.81 m/s²

Substituting the given values :

⇒ Force = 5 × 9.81

⇒ Force = 49.05

  • Force = 49.05 N

Formula to calculate the pressure acting on the table :

  • Pressure = F ÷ A

where,

  • F denotes the force
  • A denotes the area

we have,

  • F = 49.05 N
  • A = ?

We don't have the value of area. So, firstly we will calculate it.

Formula to calculate the area :

  • Area = l × b

where,

  • l denotes the length
  • b denotes the breadth

we have,

  • l = 1 m
  • b = 0.5 m

Substituting the given values :

⇒ Area = 1 × 0.5

⇒ Area = 0.5

  • Area = 0.5 m²

Now, we will calculate the pressure acting on the table :

⇒ Pressure = 49.05/0.5

⇒ Pressure = 98.1

Therefore, the pressure acting on the table = 98.1 P
