A rectangular tank measures 5m by 3m at its base. It contains height of 3m. Calculate the pressure on the base of tank.

The tank is a cuboid open at the top.

Surface area of a cuboid = 2(lb + bh + hl)

Surface area of a tank open at top = Surface area of cuboid - Area of the portion open at the top i.e.

2(lb + bh + hl) - lb = 2 (10*5 + 5*3 + 3*10) - 10*5

2(50+15+30) - 50 = 2*95 - 50 = 190 -50 = 140m sq.
