Concept:

There are two concepts are used in this question first one is distance and second one is displacement. So, distance is one which has the magnitude only and displacement is one which has magnitude as well as direction.

Given:

We have, length= 40 m and breadth = 30 m.

Find:

We have to find distance travelled and magnitude of displacement.

Solution:

As it is mentioned that we have to reach from one corner to the opposite corner. So, Distance= Length + Breadth

                                 = 40 + 30 = 70 m

On the other hand displacement is also defined as the shortest path.

So, displacement=  , where l= length and b= breadth

                           =

                           =

                           =  = 50 m

Hence, the total distance travelled is 70 m and magnitude of displacement is 50 m.
