A red colored compound ‘X’ when heated it decomposes to give a metallic silver deposit ‘Y’ along with the release of a neutral gas which rekindles a glowing splinter. Identify X and Y. Let this compound be ‘Y’.

This compound gets decomposed by heating to form a silver deposit. This is nothing but MERCURY (Hg) and the neutral gas is OXYGEN (O2) which rekindles a glowing splinter.
