The reason ribbon appears red is because it reflects red colour and absorbs the rest. Hence when ribbon is placed in green light, it absorbs all of the green light and not reflecting anything. Hence, ribbon appears black.

A red ribbon placed in green light will look black.

• A red ribbon will always reflect red colour wavelengths which are strongest in the whole light spectrum.

• Now,when the weaker wavelengths like green coloured light is emitted upon the red object the object will absorb those weaker wavelength of light.

• And,as a result a least amount of light will be reflected from the red ribbon which will appear as black colour into our eyes.
