hey there ?!!

as 20% reduction we can buy 10 more apples with 20% of 54 we can buy 10 apples

from this we can get reduced price of apple 20% of 54 = 10.8

so one apple cost is 1.08 reduced price of dozen apples = 1.08*12 = 12.96

hope it helps

A reduction of 20% in the price of apples would enable a purchaser to get 2 dozen more for Rs 5.

We have to find the reduced price per dozen.

we know,

Expenditure = price × consumption

Let initial consumption is x dozen

∴ final consumption = (x + 2) dozen

let the initial price was P

∴ final price = P - 20% of P = P - 20P/100 = 80P/100 = 8P/10

∵ initial expenditure = final expenditure = Rs. 5

⇒initial price × initial consumption = final price × final consumption

⇒P × x = 8P/10 × (x + 2)

⇒10x = 8x + 16

⇒x = 8

hence initial consumption was 8 dozen

now final consumption = 8 + 2 = 10 dozen

∴ reduced price per dozen = 5/10 = 0.5 Rs/dozen

Therefore the reduced price per dozen is 0.5 Rs/dozen.
