Start with assuming the original price per kg to be Rs.

.

reduction of 25% means price becomes =

- 25% of

or new price =−4=34

Now, for Rs. 189

, the customer was able to buy, say,

kg of rice, then

189=(

initial price per kg)×(weight bought)=×

And, now from the same amount of money, he can buy (+3)

kg of rice at new price

189=(

new price per kg)×(new weight) =34×(+3)

So, now we need to find x from the following 2 equations :

189=×

189=34×(+3)

If we substitute

from 1st equation in the 2nd, we get the following equation :

189=3×1894+94

or 189×14=94

or =21Hence, the original price was Rs 21
