It works on second law of thermodynamics which says heat can be transferred from low temperature body to high temperature body with help of external work. Since our refrigerator consumed lot amount of electricity to drive compressor so work input is given to compressor. That's why heat is absorbed by evaporator from food stored in refrigerator and this heat is rejected to surrounding by condenser on back side of refrigerator.
