Combustion in IC engines happen inside the combustion cylinder. There are 4 stages which happen inside the cylinder which is a pressure chamber. They are

1. Injection: Where the fuel is injected with air

2. Compression: To make the environment stable

3. Expansion: Where the fuel is burnt.

4. Exhaust: The gases occurred are freed outside the chamber
